In a high school setting, Nina Aloway introduces the activity, Investigating Area and Perimeter with Graphing Calculators to twenty 9th grade students at Paul Robeson High School in Chicago, Illinois. In this lesson, students use graphing calculators to enhance their understanding of area and perimeter. Using graphs they investigate the relationship between these concepts. The task in this lesson will help students to understand that the areas of different shapes with a constant perimeter can be different. They will graph shapes to visualize the relationship between the two concepts. Students also investigate how the perimeter changes as the shape changes and the area is held constant.
